Become a Referee with Skills FC!
Interested in becoming a soccer referee? Skills FC is here to guide you through the process. Refereeing is not only a great way to stay involved in soccer, but it also provides an opportunity to learn the game from a different perspective. Here’s a step-by-step guide to becoming a certified referee in Minnesota.
Eligibility:
- Must be a minimum of 13 years old to start the certification process. No exceptions.
Registration Process:
Create an Account:
- Navigate to U.S. Soccer Learning Center to create an account.
- If under 18 years old, you must add a parent’s or guardian’s email; they have to validate their email address as well.
Select Role:
- Choose either “Referee” or “Both” for your role(s).
Update Profile:
- Log into the site, update your profile, and ensure your mailing address is correct for badge shipment.
Manage Relationships:
- Add “Minnesota State Referee Committee” to your relationships to allow the SRA to track your account if you need help.
Select a Course:
- Go to “Available Courses” under “Courses” and select a class that suits you.
- Ensure the Host field says “Minnesota State Referee Committee.”
Registration and Payment:
- Proceed to registration and payment.
- The standard fee is $60. An additional $30 is required for a background check if you are 18 years old or older.
Online Assignments:
- Complete the required online assignments before the class.
- If 18 or older, you have additional assignments including a background check and SafeSport training.
Class Attendance:
- Attend the entire 5-hour course for credit.
- Bring a WiFi-enabled device to class and, if possible, your assistant referee flags.
Badge Shipment:
- Badges will be mailed to licensed officials within 4 weeks of licensure.
